Tensions remain high around Chavajebal (Chiapas state) as of Thursday, November 15, after an armed group attacked members of the Tzotzil indigenous community. The fighting broke out on November 7, after three people were arrested for killing two members of the Tzotzil community. Shortly after their arrest, an armed group attacked Chavajebal, breaking the men out of prison. At least three people died during the clashes and over 1500 residents have fled the area. Further violence is possible in the area in coming days and weeks.
