Qatar: Heavy rain and flooding reported November 11

Qatar Meteorology Department issues warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds November 11; heavy rainfall and flooding reported

Warning

Event

On Sunday, November 11, the Qatar Meteorology Department issued a warning for forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds. Heavy rainfall and localized flooding were reported, including in Doha; some 3.1 cm (1.2 in) of rain fell in northwestern areas of the country, with lesser rainfall totals reported in central Qatar. Consequent transportation disruptions, including flight delays and road closures, are to be expected over the coming hours. Further forecast thunderstorms may cause renewed flooding over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in Qatar are advised to follow weather forecasts, prepare for transportation disruptions, and adhere to any advice issued by the local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders). In the event of flooding, keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
