Senegal: Opposition protests in Dakar Nov. 29 and Dec. 6

Opposition supporters are expected to stage protests in Dakar on November 29 and December 6; avoid all gatherings

Warning

Event

Opposition supporters are expected to stage protests in Dakar on Thursday, November 29, and Thursday, December 6, in front of the Ministry of the Interior. The Democratic and Social Front of National Resistance (FNR) political group called for the protests to demand that upcoming presidential elections be free and fair and to protest the government's decision to ban an organization that had been the main source of revenue of the Y'en a marre civil society group. Heightened security measures and traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Context

Y'en a Marre is a civil society group created in 2011 to protest perceived poor governance and support youth mobilization.

The presidential elections will take place on February 24, 2019.

Advice

Individuals in Dakar are advised to remain vigilant and avoid any form of demonstration due to the risk of violence.
