South Korea: General strike and protests November 21

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has called for a nationwide general strike to take place on Wednesday, November 21, to protest the government’s labor policies in relation to working hours viewed as being unfair to workers. The union indicated that some 20,000 people were expected to take part. Gatherings can be expected in the capital Seoul outside the National Assembly at 15:00 (local time). Associated traffic disruptions, along with an increased security presence, are expected.

A related protest organized held by the Federation of Korean Trade Unions outside the National Assembly on November 17 was well attended, with around 30,000 participants.

As a precautionary measure, individuals present in South Korea are advised to stay away from public gatherings and rallies and plan journeys accounting for traffic disruptions.
