Italy: Hundreds of NCC representatives protest in Rome December 18

Hundreds of drivers and other representatives of rental car companies (Noleggio con Conducente; NCC) have staged a protest in Rome on Tuesday, December 18. The demonstration was reportedly organized to denounce the 5-Star Movement and new legislation that critics claim may lead to workforce reductions. Demonstrators reportedly gathered in front of the Prefecture of Rome and then moved to the Senate; security forces have blocked the protesters at several points and also restricted access to Piazza Venezia.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in affected areas of Rome over the coming hours. Similar protests are possible over the near term before the legislation is slated to take effect on January 1, 2019.
