Extremely cold temperatures of -34°C (-30°F) are forecast for a large area of Canada from northern Alberta to western Newfoundland on January 18; snow expected for Québec province and Maritime provinces on January 18-20

Extreme temperatures and strong winds are forecast for much of Canada, from Alberta to Newfoundland, on Friday, January 18, with temperatures as low as -34°C (-30°F) with wind chills reaching -50°C (-58°F) in some areas. A winter storm is also expected to bring heavy snow and freezing rain to eastern portions of Canada from Friday to Sunday, January 20, including southern Québec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Snowfall of up to 30 cm (12 in) is possible along with strong winds, resulting in limited visibility and dangerous driving conditions. Up to 5 cm (2 in) of rain is also possible, along with freezing rain. Transportation disruptions, including flight delays and cancelations and adverse driving conditions, are possible.
