Germany: Security staff to strike at several airports nationwide Jan. 15 /update 2
Verdi union announces strike by security staff at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Leipzig/Halle (LEJ), Dresden (DRS), Hannover (HAJ), Bremen (BRE), Hamburg (HAM), Munich (MUC), and Erfurt (ERF) January 15; significant flight disruptions expected

Security staff at Frankfurt (FRA), Leipzig/Halle (LEJ), Dresden (DRS), Hannover (HAJ), Bremen (BRE), Hamburg (HAM), and Munich (MUC) international airports, as well as at Erfurt (ERF) regional airport, are set to stage a strike on Tuesday, January 15. Strikes will be held during the following hours (local time):
- FRA: 02:00 to 08:00
- LEJ: 04:00 to 18:00
- DRS: 03:00 to 21:00
- ERF: 06:00 to 22:00
Details of the planned strikes at HAJ, BRE, HAM, and MUC, have not been released as of the afternoon of Monday, January 14. Disruptions are to be expected throughout the day, including delays and longer waiting times at security checkpoints. Flight delays and cancellations cannot be ruled out.
Context
Associated strikes by security staff were held at Düsseldorf (DUS), Stuttgart (STR), and Cologne-Bonn Konrad Adenauer (CGN) international airports on January 10, causing significant flight disruptions. Verdi represents 23,000 security workers in Germany and are currently engaged in wage talks which are expected to resume on January 23.
