US: Winter storm brings snow, strong winds to New Mexico January 1 /update 1
Winter storm warnings issued for most of New Mexico on January 1; transportation disruptions possible

Heavy snow and strong winds are expected to cause transportation disruptions in New Mexico on Tuesday, January 1. The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for most of New Mexico and portions of southwestern Colorado and eastern Arizona effective until 00:00 (local time) on Wednesday, January 2. An estimated 7.5-18 cm (3-7 in) of snow is expected in lower elevations of central and east-central New Mexico with more snowfall in mountainous areas. Winds up to 56 km/h (35 mph) are expected as well. Blowing snow, freezing fog, slick roads, and low visibility are expected in New Mexico, including in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe metropolitan areas. Transportation disruptions, including flight delays, are possible.
