Parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova on Sunday, February 24. Tensions have risen in the days leading up to the vote after two opposition leaders issued statements on Thursday, February 21, accusing the ruling party of poisoning them and being corrupt. The ruling Democratic Party has denied the allegations. According to recent opinion polls, no party is expected to win an outright majority. The US Embassy in Chisinau has warned that large demonstrations are possible following the election. Heightened security measures are expected throughout the country in the days leading up to the vote and after.
