Thailand: Air pollution remains at unhealthy level in Bangkok region Feb. 1

As of Friday, February 1, according to the Pollution Control Department, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Bangkok reached the dust particle readings 107 (unhealthy level for sensitive roups) at 16:00 (local time). Such unhealthy air pollution level is also affecting the Bang Kruai district located in the Nonthaburi province, the Krathum Baen and Muang districts in the Samut Sakhon province, the Bang Sao Thong district in the Samut Prakan province, the Khlong Luang district in the Pathum Thani province, and the Muang district in the Nakhon Pathom province.

Context

According to environment group structures, Bangkok is currently the tenth most polluted capital city in the world. Traffic congestion, railway and condominium construction, road works, as well as dry season weather are generally responsible for the worsening air quality in the Thai capital. Exposure to high levels of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 mm) can lead to various health issues, such as eye and skin irritation and headaches, and can aggravate cardiac and respiratory conditions.
