Peru: Flooding in Amazonas region March 27-30
Heavy rains in Amazonas region on March 27 causes flooding in several areas, destroying at least 25 houses; rains to continue through March 30

Flooding has been reported in several parts of Amazonas region as of Thursday, March 28. Heavy rainfall started to impact the region on Wednesday, March 27, causing the Maranon river to overflow. Utcubamba province has been one of the most impacted areas and the government has deployed the military to assist in recovery efforts. At least 25 homes have been destroyed in Cumba district, forcing families to evacuate from the area. Additional rainfall is forecast for Amazonas region through Saturday, March 30, and additional flooding is possible in the coming days.

Individuals in Amazonas region are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate flooding and associated transportation disruptions (including road closures), and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of moving water is enough to knock over an adult. Floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
