SITUAM union demonstration planned in Mexico City April 8; localized traffic disruptions expected

The Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadores de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (SITUAM) union is planning to stage a demonstration in Mexico City on Monday, April 8. Unconfirmed reports claim that the demonstration will begin at the Monumento a la Revolución at 16:00 (local time); participants are then expected to move to the Plaza de la Constitución (Zócalo) to stage a sit-in demonstration in front of the adjacent Palacio Nacional, demanding salary increases and educational reforms.

Localized traffic disruptions are to be expected around the demonstration. Similar protests are possible in Mexico City over the coming days and weeks.
