The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) called on civic society leaders to reign in ongoing unrest in Honiara on Guadalcanal on Wednesday, April 24, and announced increased patrols and deployment of personnel due to protests following the announcement of election results. Manasseh Sogavare was reelected as the country's prime minister amid controversy over a postponement of the vote. Unrest, including protest marches and some vandalism, was reported in the Chinatown and Kukum areas of the capital. Police reportedly used tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
