A scheduled trust vote against Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele was withdrawn by the opposition on Dec. 16. Authorities had bolstered security in Honiara as a precaution due to potential solidarity rallies by supporters and counter-protests. Australia also issued a warning on Dec. 11, advising its citizens to avoid political gatherings due to the risk of violence.
Increased security is likely to continue at and around the Parliament House as a precaution until the ongoing session concludes. Security measures could prompt intermittent localized traffic disruptions.
