A suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) explosion killed two people in Karabilah (Anbar province) on Thursday, May 23. According to local sources, at least two other people were wounded in the blast.

Similar incidents are possible in areas of Iraq formerly controlled by the IS group over the near term.

While former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claimed victory over the Islamic State (IS) group in December 2017, the group retains a degree of freedom of movement in parts of the country, particularly in western and northern Iraq.
