Italy: Far-right rally planned in San Lorenzo (Rome) May 25

Far-right rally planned in San Lorenzo neighborhood in Rome May 25; heightened security presence to be expected near demonstration and counterprotest

Warning

Event

Far-right political party Forza Nuova (FN) has planned a march in Rome's San Lorenzo neighborhood on Saturday, May 25, in memory of an Italian girl who they allege was murdered by three migrants in October 2018. Unconfirmed sources indicate that FN did not request authorization for a demonstration on Saturday and exact times and locations for the rally were not immediately reported.

Non Una Less Di Roma is reportedly planning to stage a counterprotest at 10:00 (local time) in Largo Eduardo Talamo in Scalo San Lorenzo.

A heightened security presence is likely in Rome near the demonstrations on Saturday and associated transportation disruptions are possible in the affected areas. The risk of associated violence between FN demonstrators and counterdemonstrators cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Rome are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
