Warning

Event

Some 70,000 people are expected to participate in the annual LGBT pride parade - known locally as the Seoul Queer Culture Festival - held on Saturday, June 1, in central Seoul. Participants are slated to hold a rally at Seoul Plaza at 14:00-16:00 (local time) before marching in the city center via Euljiro station, Jonggak station, and Gwanghwamun; the parade will conclude at Seoul Plaza at 18:00. A counter-demonstration organized by anti-LGBT groups is expected to take place at Daehanmun from 13:00.

Heightened security can be expected in the vicinity of the march route. Severe traffic disruptions and road closures due to large crowds are also to be anticipated.

Advice

Individuals in Seoul are advised to be prepared for road and other transportation disruptions and allow for additional time to reach their destinations.
