City officials in the capital Addis Ababa have announced that a ban on individually-owned motorcycles in the city will come into effect on Monday, July 8. According to Addis Ababa’s deputy mayor, Takele Umma, the ban is part of an attempt to reduce street crime in the capital. Umma said that a recent study found that a significant number of crimes are being committed by individuals using motorcycles. The ban will not include embassy motorcycles, postal carriers, or motorcycles used by licensed businesses.
