Heavy rains and strong winds resulted in flooding and transit delays June 12; more transportation disruptions expected

On Wednesday, June 12, extreme weather caused significant flooding and transit delays in Saxony, Brandenburg, and the capital Berlin. Sections of two important motorways in Berlin - the Stadtring (A100) and Kaiserdamm - were closed this morning due to flooding, causing significant delays. The A115 between Spanischer Allee and Kreuz Zehlendorf was also closed in Berlin. Berlin airports Tegel (TXL) and Schönefeld (SXF) were experiencing delays from Tuesday, June 11, through Wednesday morning. Residual delays are likely in the coming hours.
The city of Postdam was strongly affected by downed trees and severe flooding.
The severe weather warning remains in effect until Thursday, June 13, at 13:00 (local time), as thunderstorms, hailstones, winds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph), and heavy rain are forecasted. Lingering transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are likely until at least June 13.
