Iraq: Ongoing protest in Basra June 20

Residents of Basra launched a protest on the morning (local time) of Thursday, June 20, to denounce poor public services and widespread youth unemployment. Protesters reportedly gathered near the provincial government building. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated near demonstration sites. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Additional protests are possible in Basra over the coming weeks.
