Warning

Event

A rally in support of the recently formed coalition government is being organized in Chișinău for Sunday, June 16. Former President Igor Dodon is calling for supporters to gather in front of the Parliament Building at 11:00 (local time). The demonstration is expected to be well attended and a significant police presence is likely in the area. Associated localized traffic disruptions are also anticipated.

Context

Moldova's parliament has been hung since elections in February 2019 created political deadlock until Saturday, June 8, when two opposition parties agreed to form a government and appoint a new prime minister. In response, the Democratic Party of Moldova called for parliament to be dissolved; President Dodon refused to dissolve parliament resulting in his ouster by the constitutional court.

Advice

Individuals in Chișinău are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
