Strong winds across North Island likely to cause flight disruptions in Wellington June 5-6; confirm flight reservations

Heavy rains, strong winds, and forecast isolated tornadoes across New Zealand's North Island are likely to cause flight disruptions (i.e. delays and cancelations) at Wellington International Airport (WLG) on Wednesday, June 5, and Thursday, June 6. Air New Zealand is allowing customers booked on affected flights - those scheduled to depart and arrive at WLG after 13:00 (local time) on Wednesday - to change flights without penalty. According to the MetService, wind gusts of up to 120 kph (74 mph) are forecast to affect a large part of the North Island until the morning of June 6. Disruptions to other means of transportation (e.g. rail, road, and maritime transportation) are likely. Power outages are also possible. Wind damage, localized flooding, and associated damage and disruptions are likely over the coming hours.
On the morning of Wednesday, officials warned of delays or interruptions to ferry services and some road closures were reported, along with temporary delays at Auckland Airport (AKL).
