Attack on a Japanese and a Norwegian oil tankers reported through the Gulf of Oman June 14; no casualties reported

Event

 An attack targeting Japanese oil tanker, Kokuka Courageous, and Norwegian, Front Altair, both travelling through the Gulf of Oman, has been reported on Thursday, June 13. The companies owning the ships confirmed that multiple explosions occurred on both vessels in the morning (local time), forcing the Kokuka Courageous crew to flee the damaged tanker through lifeboats, before being rescued by a nearby boat. No casualties have been reported.

The attack has not yet been claimed and details are still emerging.

Context

A similar attack targeting four oil-tankers in the Gulf of Oman occurred in May 2019, amid regional tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as the United Arab Emirates.
