Calgary will host the annual Calgary Stampede from Friday, July 5, through Sunday, July 14. Over 1 million people are expected to attend the events, which include a parade, rodeos, western shows, and performances from over 300 musicians. The Stampede will begin with a parade in downtown Calgary on July 5 from 09:00 (local time) until 13:00. Over 300,000 people are expected to watch the parade, which will result in several road closures and parking restriction. The route begins at the intersection of 9 Avenue SE and 1 Street SE and will proceed down 9 Avenue SW to 10 Street SW then back up 6 Avenue SW until ending at 3 Street SE. Road closures will be in affect around East Village and Fort Calgary from 07:30 until around 14:00. The main events will be held at Stampede Park, located south of Victoria Park. Calgary police have announced heightened security measures during the Stampede, including an increase in security cameras, concrete barriers at park entrances, and additional K-9 units. Visitor will be restricted from brining in anything that could be used as a weapon, including knives and bladed items, pepper spray, and replica firearms. Crowded conditions, an increased demand for accommodations, and traffic disruptions are also anticipated in the area.
