The demonstration by the Council of Patriots (COP) civil society group had been organized to denounce perceived corruption by the administration of President George Weah. Police reportedly deployed tear gas and arrested protesters as they approached the parliament building.

A heightened security presence and residual transportation disruptions are possible in Monrovia over the coming days. Further related demonstrations cannot be ruled out.
