According to the US diplomatic authorities, activists protesting US policy in Cuba and Venezuela are slated to march in Windhoek on Wednesday, July 3. Participants are due to gather outside the City of Windhoek Municipal Offices on Independence Avenue at 13:00 (local time) and then march to the US Embassy on Lossen Street. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the march.
Context
Namibia maintains strong political and economic relations with both Cuba and Venezuela. On Tuesday, July 4, the US announced significant restrictions on US citizens traveling to Cuba. And the Trump administration denounced President Nicolas Maduro's administration following his inauguration to a second term on January 10, and instead recognised opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim head of state.
