Civil society groups plan nationwide protests on August 31; heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Unions and civil society groups have called for nationwide protests, including in the capital Ouagadougou, on Saturday, August 31, to denounce government policies on terrorism. Protesters in Ouagadougou are expected to gather at the Bourse du Travail at 08:00 (local time) and outside the Conseil Burkinabe des Chargeurs at 15:00. Associated rallies may be held in other cities across the country.

A heightened security presence and transportation and business disruptions are to be expected near demonstration sites. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Burkina Faso, particularly Ouagadougou, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized traffic disruptions and a heightened security presence near demonstration sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
