Violent clashes between nomadic groups and farmers began in the Ouaddaï region on Monday, August 5, and continued until Wednesday, August 7. Officials reported that the conflict left at least 37 people dead as of Friday, August 9. Police responding to the clashes were reportedly met with gunfire.

Deadly intercommunal clashes occur on a regular basis in the Ouaddaï region, and further intercommunal violence is possible in the area in the near term.
