A gas pipeline exploded in Al-Hartha (Basra province) on Wednesday, August 14, cutting supply to a local power station as firefighters doused the consequent blaze. The pipeline reportedly exploded due to a technical problem secondary to extremely high temperatures of near 49°C (120°F).

Lingering power outages are to be expected in the area over the coming hours.
