Officials declare state of emergency in parts of the Far East region, including Primorsky Krai and Vladivostok, on August 29 due to ongoing flooding

Significant flooding has been impacting the Far East region in recent days, prompting officials to declare a state of emergency in some areas as of Thursday, August 29. A state of emergency in Primorsky Krai is in effect for 15 municipalities. Vladivostok’s municipal administration issued a state of emergency on Wednesday, August 28, that will remain in effect until recovery efforts are completed. Over 100 homes have been flooded and a road has been washed out and the city’s infrastructure has suffered an estimated USD 1.5 million (100 million rubles) in damages. Vladivostok has been hit by over 15 cm (6 in) of rain in recent days. Over 500 homes throughout Primorsky Krai have been flooded, forcing 170 people to be evacuated. Further rain is forecast in the region through Friday, August 30, which may cause additional damages and disruptions.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
