South Korea: Korean Air to reduce service to Japan

Korean Air announced on Wednesday, August 21, that the airline will reduce or temporarily suspend some routes between South Korea and Japan starting in September. According to the airline, the service changes are due to decreasing demand caused by the current tensions between the two countries. The route changes include:

• Suspending flights between Gimhae International Airport (PUS) in Busan to New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Sapporo from September 3
• Suspending flights between PUS to Osaka International Airport (ITM) from September 16
• Suspending flights between Jeju International Airport (CJU) to ITM and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) from November 1
• Suspending flights between Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Komatsu Airport (KMQ) and Kagoshima Airport (KOJ) from September 29 to November 16
• Suspending flights between ICN and Asahikawa Airport (AKJ) from September 29 to October 26
• Reducing flights from ICN to ITM and Fukuoka Airport (FUK) from 28 per week to 21 between October 27 and November 16
• Reducing flights between ICN and Naha Airport (OKA) in Okinawa from seven per week to four between September 29 and November 16
• Reducing flights between PUS and NRT/FUK from 14 per week to seven between September 29 and November 16
