A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit 8 km (5 mi) est southeast of Baklan (Afyonkarahisar); aftershocks possible
Event
The US Geological Survey (USGC) recorded a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in western Turkey on Thursday, August 8 at 14:25 (local time). The earthquake struck approximately 8 km (5 mi) east southeast of Baklan (Afyonkarahisar) at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
Three other earthquakes were recorded in Turkey on Thursday, including one of 4.3 magnitude 5 km (3 mi) from Baklan at 14:19 and one of 4.6 magnitude south southeast of Seferihisar (Izmir) at 11:39.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
