Turkiye: Aircraft engine catches fire during landing at Antalya Airport late on Nov. 24. Flight disruptions expected
Flight disruptions expected at Antalya Airport in Turkiye, after aircraft engine catches fire on landing on Nov. 24. No injuries reported.
Flight disruptions are expected at Antalya Airport (AYT) as of late Nov. 24, following a fire that broke out in the engine of an Azimuth Airlines (A4) flight during landing. The cause of the fire is unclear; however, reports suggest the plane made an emergency landing in inclement weather. Authorities have evacuated the aircraft, and the fire has been extinguished. All passengers and crew are reportedly safe and uninjured. Authorities are working to clear the runway and have stated that aircraft arrivals will be suspended until at least 03:00 on Nov. 25.
Authorities will likely maintain an increased security presence at the airport as they continue to investigate the blaze and clear the aircraft from the runway. Arrival delays will almost certainly continue through at least early Nov. 25. Flight cancelations are likely if the clearance operation becomes protracted.
Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via AYT through at least the morning of Nov. 25. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
