Turkey: Protest planned in Istanbul, Mardin August 20

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) supporters to hold demonstrations in Istanbul and Mardin August 20; heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions expected

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) supporters are set to protest in Istanbul and Mardin on Tuesday, August 20, to denounce opposition party mayors' recent removal from office, accused of terrorism. In Mardin, protesters are expected to gather at 11:00 (local time) outside the municipality building. In Istanbul, the demonstration is set to begin at 13:00 outside the Justice Palace.

A heightened security presence, along with traffic disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of all protests. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
