Burkina Faso: Police forces disperse protesters in Ouagadougou September 16; further protests likely

Police forces dispersed at least 2000 protesters with tear gas in the capital Ouagadougou on Monday, September 16. Protesters gathered to denounce the "security, social, and economic crisis" prevailing across the country. Leaders of the protest movement warned that further protests will be held until appropriate measures are taken by the government.

A heightened security presence and transportation and business disruptions are to be expected near demonstration sites. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
