Burkina Faso: Regional summit to be held in Ouagadougou September 13-14
Two high-level regional summits to be held in Ouagadougou on September 13-14; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions expected

Two high-level regional summits will be held in Ouagadougou on Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14. On Friday, head of states of the G5 Sahel (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Chad), will meet to discuss solar energy in the region. On Saturday, the Mediation and Security Council of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is scheduled to discuss security threats and terrorism in the region. Numerous leaders from West African countries are expected to attend the event.
Heightened security measures, including checkpoints, vehicle checks and increased security personnel in the capital, are to be expected during and following the summits. Associated disruptions, including road closures and increased traffic congestion, as well as disruption around Ouagadougou International Airport (OUA), are expected.
