Ghana: Overnight curfew extended in Bole township and other areas September 18 /update 1

The Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday, September 18, that an overnight curfew currently in place for the township of Bole (Northern region) has been extended following intercommunal clashes. Curfew hours will run from 18:00 until 04:00 (local time) in Bole and its surroundings. Curfews were also renewed in Bunkpurugu (Northern region) from 20:00 to 06:00, in Bimbila township and its surroundings (Northern region) from 22:00 to 04:00, in Chereponi (North East region) from 22:00 to 04:00, in the Jaman South municipality (Bono region) from 20:00 to 05:00, and in Alavanyo and Nkonya (both Oti region) from 18.00 to 06.00. A complete ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, or other weapons is also in effect. Additional security personnel have also been deployed into these areas. It is unclear how long the heightened security measures and new curfew hours will remain in effect. Further clashes between rival communities are also possible in the near term.
