Journalists call for protest in Beirut September 18; heightened security and localized traffic disruptions expected

Several journalist and civil society organizations are calling for a protest in Beirut on Wednesday, September 18, to show support to the editor-in-chief and the director of the Nida' el-Watan newspaper. Both have been put under investigation following a controversial article published in the newspaper on Thursday, September 12, in which President Michel Aoun is criticized for his alleged links to Hezbollah and Iran.

Protesters are expected to gather at the Justice Palace at 09:30 (local time), where the two newspaper's two leaders are being summoned.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected near the protest site.
