Warning

Event

A two-day rally is scheduled to take place in front of the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14. The events will formalize the political cooperation between the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and the United Malays National Organisation (UNMO). According to UNMO, around 10,000 participants are expected to attend the event, which will start at 15:00 (local time) on Friday.

Transportation disruptions are expected around the PWTC and near the light rail transit (LRT) lines.

Context

UNMO and PAS are the two biggest Malay-based parties in the country. Once opposed, they have forged a close relationship after the last general election in May 2018, and joined forces in several by-elections since then.

Advice

Individuals in Kuala Lumpur are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all demonstrations, and anticipate transportation disruptions.
