Turkey: 5.7-magnitude earthquake strikes near Istanbul September 26

The US Geological Survey recorded a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in Istanbul at 13:59 (local time) on Thursday, September 26. According to initial reports, the quake struck in the sea of Marmara, 70 km (43 mi) west of Istanbul at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). Several offices and schools were evacuated across the city. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Further aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
