Turkey: Severe weather conditions expected in west Turkey September 13
Parts of the west to receive severe weather conditions September 13; heavy rain, storms, and transportation disruptions expected
Event
The Turkish State Meteorological Service has forecast severe weather conditions for Friday, September 13. Heavy rains and winds of up to 80 kph (50 mph) are expected in Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, and other Aegean coastal areas. The southeastern part of Izmir will see the most rain in the province. The storms are expected to clear by Saturday, September 14.
Associated flooding and transportation disruptions are possible in the coming days. Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate power outages and transportation and business disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
