DRC: Nationwide anti-corruption rallies planned October 19,21
The Laic Coordination Committee (CLC) calls for nationwide anti-corruption rallies on October 19,21; heightened security and associated transportation disruptions possible
Event
The Laic Coordination Committee (CLC) has called for nationwide anti-corruption rallies to take place on Saturday, October 19, and Monday, October 21, with the support of the opposition coalition.
On Saturday, protesters in Goma will march towards the North-Kivu appeal court from three different locations, the Mutinga station and the Signers and Terminus roundabouts.
On Monday, the rally will take place in Kinshasa. Details on the schedules and locations have yet to be announced.
Related protests are expected to take place in other urban centers across the country, although the exact locations remain unclear as of Friday, October 18.
Heightened security and associated transportation disruptions are expected around the protests. Despite CLC's call to ban violence during the rallies, clashes between demonstrators and authorities cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Individuals in DRC are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
