Saudi Arabia: Flooding leaves seven dead in the northeast October 28

Deadly flooding kills at least seven people in northeastern areas as of October 28; further flooding and transportation disruptions expected

Officials have confirmed seven fatalities from torrential rains and consequent flooding that hit the northeastern parts of the kingdom as of Monday, October 28. An additional 11 people were injured. According to rescue services in Hafer al-Batin, 16 people were forced to evacuate their homes. Schools in Hafer al-Batin suspended classes on Monday due to the weather. Several traffic incidents were also reported due to the flooding.

Associated disruptions to transportation and business services are possible in the coming hours and days in the affected areas.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before setting out, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
