South Korea: Taxi drivers to strike nationwide October 24
Taxi drivers call for nationwide strike and plan protest in Seoul on October 24; transportation disruptions and heightened security presence expected

Taxi associations have jointly called for a nationwide strike to protest the launch of Kakao Mobility's app-based ride-sharing services during a 24-hour strike. The strike will begin at 04:00 (local time) on Thursday, October 24. An estimated 100,000 taxi drivers are expected to participate in the strike nationwide.
In Seoul, a rally is scheduled to take place in Gwanghwamun Square (central Seoul) at 14:00 on Thursday, followed by a march towards Cheong Wa Dae planned by Seoul Private Taxi Association (SPTA).
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Wednesday, October 23, that additional buses and subways will run during the strike.
Severe transportation disruption and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of all protests.
