Montenegro: Heavy rainfall causes flooding across country November 6 /update 1

Heavy rainfall causes flooding and landslides across Montenegro November 6; associated disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Flooding and landslides have been reported across parts of Montenegro on Wednesday, November 6, following days of heavy rainfall. Several roads have been blocked by floodwaters and mud from landslides, including those leading from the northern part of the country to the capital Podgorica. Dozens of homes have also reportedly been flooded, particularly in the towns of Niksic and Herceg Novi. No casualties have been reported and rescue operations are underway as of Wednesday afternoon (local time).

Residual transportation, power, and commercial disruptions are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before heading out, anticipate  power, transportation, commercial, and communications disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
