Islamic State (IS) claims responsibility for November 5 attack on border checkpoint; further attacks possible over the near term

The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the November 5 attack on a Tajik security checkpoint along the border with Uzbekistan. According to Tajikistan's National Security Committee, two security personnel were killed in the gun battle along with 15 militants. IS claimed to have killed at least 10 members of the Tajik security forces in the attack, which occurred 50 km (30 mi) southwest of Dushanbe.
Further militant attacks are possible in the area over the near term.
