Officials enacted emergency measures to curb the effects of high pollution impacting Sarajevo as of Sunday, December 8. Regulations include reducing coal-fueled central heating temperatures for buildings, banning freight vehicles from roads, and canceling all outdoor public events. The government also urged residents to limit outdoor activities. Pollution, particularly ultrafine particulate matter, has been at levels twice as high as those recommended by the European Union.

Advice

Individuals in Sarajevo are advised to monitor updates to the situation, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and refrain from strenuous outdoor activity. Children and those with respiratory illnesses should exercise additional precautions. Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if experiencing breathing difficulties or other health concerns.
