Warning

Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kolkata on Saturday, January 11, and Sunday, January 12, to attend the 150th anniversary of the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT). Modi is expected to arrive at Kolkata Airport (CCU) at around 17:00 (local time) before attending inauguration celebrations at the Howrah Bridge at around 19:00 and returning to Raj Bhavan at around 21:00. On Sunday, Modi is expected to participate in the KoPT celebration program at the Netaji Indoor Stadium as of 11:00.

Activist groups have called for a protest at the Raj Bhavan gates on Saturday. Further road blockades and disruptive actions are expected across the city during Modi's visit, prompting authorities to implement a three-layer security arrangement.

Heightened security measures will likely be in place in Kolkata and at the airport. Transportation disruptions, including checkpoints and road closures, are possible.

Advice

Individuals in Kolkata are advised to avoid any potential protests as a precaution, anticipate transportation and business disruptions and a heightened security presence during Modi's visit, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
