At least two people were killed and 48 others injured after a gas tanker exploded in Lima on Thursday, January 23. The truck reportedly caught fire after striking a pothole in the Villa El Salvador district of the capital, igniting several nearby homes in the process. Ambulances and rescue teams have been dispatched to the site of the blast. 

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near the site of the explosion over the coming hours.
