The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.3-magnitude earthquake 29 km (47 mi) southeast of Gharm (Republican Subordination districts) at approximately 14:10 (local time) on Wednesday, January 29. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km (16 mi). There were no immediate reports of injuries or infrastructure damage.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.
